Course description

This course provides an understanding oforal language acquisition and the role it plays in learning to read and write, as well as research-based strategies and activities for developing oral language, phonemic awareness, and early literacy skills. Students will demonstrate proficiency at analyzing oral language, reading and writing samples of young normally-developing and at-risk children, as well as children learning English as a second language. They will also demonstrate proficiency at developing curriculum-based lesson plans aimed at developing oral language, phonemic awareness and early literacy skills.
